For the 2008/09 harvest, ETH produced 130 million tons of sugar. For the 2009/10 harvest, the production target is for 160 million tons.
The sugar cane grinding carried out by the mills result in two products: the juice, destined for the production of sugar and ethanol, and the bagasse, used in the co-generation of energy. For the production of sugar, the juice undergoes sifting, bleaching, concentration, centrifugation and drying, through which the sucrose is transformed into sugar crystals.
