To co-generate energy at the sugar and alcohol plants, the bagasse that is left over from the sugar cane grind is burnt in high-technology boilers. The high pressure vapor produced by this burn activates turbines that are connected to generators, producing thermal, mechanical and electric energy. This energy is sufficient to supply the plant and the surplus will be sold.
2.700 gigawatts of electric power will be generated by ETH in 2012.
