Brenco's investors are among the most active worldwide investors in the production, research and development of renewable sources of and alternative technologies for energy. Brenco and its principal investors are convinced that advances in technology will prove critical over the medium- to long-term to maintaining low-cost competitive advantage in the growing of sugarcane and the efficient industrial production of ethanol fuel.
|
We believe that the main technology improvements in the ethanol industry are likely to be:
- Bioengineering: enzymes and plant engineering;
- Process and Process Yields: process cost, pre-treatment, co-production of chemicals, process yield increases and consolidated bio-processing; and
- Other: synthetic biology, nanotechnology and thermochemicals.
|
Future technological improvements in the industry should prove complementary, rather than predatory and will include a range of alternative technologies: such as genetic engineering of new varieties of sugarcane, new planting techniques, and enhanced mechanization of harvest operations, new crushing and distilling processes and technologies, as well as new and/or enhanced sources of ethanol, such as saw grass or cellulosic ethanol.
